Ann Key Foundation

This foundation arose from the love a community showed during a time of need. Due to unfortunate circumstances, many students that have worked so hard to obtain academic success find themselves without money or resources to attend college, especially after a hardship. Candace Walker was one of those students. She was an outstanding student and excelled both in and out of the classroom and graduated as Salutatorian from Stone Mountain High School in Stone Mountain, GA. Due to her mother’s encouragement to seek out academic scholarships and her hard work, Candace received over $100,000 in scholarship funds in addition to an academic award from one of her top choice schools.

Unfortunately, while in her senior year her mother was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and after an intense nine-month fight she passed away two months and two days after Candace's graduation. Faculty and staff surprisingly raised $2000 to help Candace get to college and purchase necessities so she could realize her dreams of attending college at Loyola University in New Orleans. With over $100,000 in scholarship funds that were not accessible until she reached college, Candace was more than grateful to receive help.

Candace never forgot the generosity that her faculty and staff provided and in 2012 she decided to give two $2000 scholarships to deserving students out of her own money as a memorial in honor of her mother, Ann Key. Today Candace has awarded students with this scholarship for over seven years.
